The group enjoyed these two chapters: Chapter 2 deals with hair dressing (for females), and has many different facets to the art of hair styling: knowing what the customer is saying from their language, and interpreting it correctly in order to cut their hair the way they want it. Knowing the compromise of what the customer sometimes thinks they want, and the hairstylist knowing what will look good for the customer, having an array of different talents: coloring, cutting, finesse in how to handle and cut the hair, and a personality to go with customer relations.
Chapter 3 deals with Plumbing and follows a man named Mr. Guthier who teaches kids through hands on experience on how to trouble shoot plumbing problems. We enjoyed this chapter because it dealt more with the personal aspects of interaction and care for future plumbers. It also deals with the confidence of kids trying to find their way into a society that is structured on having a career, and feeling successful, which Mr. G performs in each lesson he teaches the kids throughout the chapter.

Group analysis Of first chapter of The MIND AT WORK
Our group last week went through the first chapter of The Mind at Work. We felt it was a bit lengthy, but there is plenty of information pertaining to waitressing: a waitress must keep the glasses filled for the guests, know the layout of the cafe', have a nurturing affectionate personality to the guest, remember what food goes where for what table, and which guest, be as efficient in time maintenance, and be able to communicate to the cook, the guest, and managment what is going on at all times.
We felt that the didactic aspects of it were enlightening, but the format was a bit boring. Perhaps if the Author put the reader in the shoes of the waitress in a story mode, then the read would go by faster, and we would have the anxiety, excitement, stress, and care of and understanding of what it would be like to be a waitress.

The chapter gives insights that waitressing is a multi-tasking job of interation w/ the cutomer(s), knowing the layout of the cafe, and having an understanding that service is of the highest order in order to get a good tip which pays the bills.

Book Club #1 - The Game Plan
For our book, The Mind at Work... We are planning dissect each chapter and then for our presentation correlate a discussion on the topic of each particular chapter of work/career. Having be that most people in the class have worked or know someone that worked in a particular field that relates to each chapter. We feel this interaction will be more educational for both our readings of the book, and people who can relate to particular jobs.
